The first and best-known Alan Chadwick garden occupies a hillside on the UC Santa Cruz campus. In the period when he was making his transition from Santa Cruz to Covelo, Alan helped start two other California gardens, one at Green Gulch in Marin County and one at Saratoga. After more than five years in Covelo, he spent over a year creating a garden with apprentices in Virginia. Last, in the months before he died in 1980, he helped re-imagine the garden at Green Gulch Zen Center.
